ZACHARI DUNES
When Portfolio for Hospitality, a hospitality-focused architecture and interior design firm, approached Bridgewater, they were seeking something no other architectural metal fabrication company had yet been able to provide—massive metal screens fabricated as a single piece—no seams, no bolts. In addition, their timeline was tight - they needed the screens produced and delivered within 8 weeks.
Our team was happy to take on the challenge, providing a design-assist and developing a strategy for both the fabrication and installation. Next, we conducted a site visit to confirm conditions, align with other trades, and ensure there would be no ingress or egress issues. Finally, we went to work fabricating the 6’x 12’ solid metal screens that would provide visual definition and traffic flow through the grand hotel lobby.
The pattern for the semi-opaque screens began as a CAD file and was optimized for fabrication by Bridgewater, allowing their vision of a premium room divider with no interruption of pattern or visual joints in the final product to be realized. The last challenge was ensuring that the finished product would be resistant to salt air, as the hotel is steps from the Pacific Ocean. The screens were then shipped from Chicago on a dedicated truck and installed by our team with great care over existing marble floors.
